Sunday Smiles

Sunday.

It's not exactly my favourite day of the week, I usually find that I spend it in gloomy anticipation of the return to alarm clocks, rushed breakfasts and matching socks that signals the onset of the working week. My Sunday Smiles posts hope to combat that by bringing some of my favourite bits of internet randomness together and hopefully bring a smile to your Sunday!

“I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it.”
Sex and the City

'Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.'
Dead Poets Society.

'No girl should ever forget that she doesn't need anyone who doesn't need her.'
Marilyn Monroe

'It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.'
Indiana Jones

If that didn't manage to bring a smile to your sunday, this is an amazing video of a surfer in super slow motion that is stunning and made me want to grab a board and give it a go!

p.s. my socks never match, regardless of the day of the week.

Friday 22 July 2011

Hello and thank you for reading my blog! I'm in Paris this week on holiday but I'll be back soon with a normal post but first I have recieved a blog award which is wonderful as I am so new to blogging!

The lovely tiny bow blog awarded me this blog award:

So this is my response post.

Thank you!

QUESTIONS:

Favorite color:
This changes so often! It depends on the season, the weather... but today it is peach.

Favorite song:
This is the hardest question ever! And like the first question it changes a lot but at the moment it would be a toss up between 'Another heart calls' by the All American Rejects and the Pierces and 'Video Games' by Lana Del Ray

Favorite dessert:
Double chocolate cheesecake all the way! Although I have just discovered Krispy Kreme donuts and they are putting up a serious challenge for the top spot.

What is pissing you off?
The increase in university tuition fees! And rude people.

Favorite pet:
I have had three Jack Russell terriers: Trixie, Mac and Ruby, choosing my favourite would be impossible!

When you're upset you:
Watch SATC and 10 things I hate about you.

Black or White:
Black, it's timelessly chic! And you can spill chocolate ice cream on it and nobody will know!

Biggest Fear:
Heights.

Your best feature:
I love my ginger hair- carrot tops rule!

Everyday attitude:
'Ever noticed that what the hell is always the right decision?'

What is perfection?
Honey, perfection doesn't exist! However Heath Ledger, the Arctic Monkeys and double chocolate cheesecake all get pretty damn close!

Guilty pleasure:
I have far too many to list them all but I'd say my main ones are Dolly Parton, danish pastries and the X-files.

RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME:

1) The first gig I went to was James Blunt.
2) Both my parents are Scottish.
3) I can't wait to join the rugby team at uni.
4) I am a massive fan of the  X-Files (and it's not just because David Duchovny is super cute:)
5) I have never been skiing.
6) I love Clint Eastwood movies.
7) My lucky numbers are 5 and 13.

Sunday Smiles ♥

I've just started working proper hours again after what has, up till now, been a rather laid back gap year! And with the return of 'normal working hours' so too has that sinking sunday feeling that signals the return to work on monday. My sunday smiles post hopes to combat that by bringing some of my favourite bits of internet randomness together and hopefully bring a smile to your Sunday!

'What do I wear in bed? Why Chanel No. 5 of course.' Marilyn Monroe

'Ever notice that what the hell is always the right descion?' Unknown Hollywood script writer

'Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive
Can always be an angel' The Animals

And if all that didn't manage to bring a smile to your sunday this is a wonderfully up-lifting story about a whale and three people who saved it's life:

have a fantastic week

If that didn't manage to shift that impending doom feeling that comes with the approach of Monday hopefully this Baz Luhrman video will bring a smile to your sunday!

Lana Del Ray, Radiant Red, KG Wedges and a Vintage Dress

Record that Rocks

In this part of my blog I share a song or artist that I think rocks- fairly self explanatory really:)

My record that rocks this post is the utterly gorgeous 'video games' by Lana Del Ray, tell your friends, tell your family, tell strangers in the street about this song! It is utterly hypnotic and beautiful! The first time I watched the video, when Lana sang the first lines of the song I was so knocked away by her voice I nearly dropped the coffee I was drinking (I never thought that kind of thing happened in real life!).

I always love the record that I introduce you to in this part of my blog but this song really is something different, I find it hard to do anything else when this song is playing it draws me to a halt and I adore it!

I've been sticking very well to my 'only one record per post' rule but rules are made to be broken and I've been meaning to show you this song since I started my blog!

This is 'Uh Oh' by Lovelle a very talent singer from London I first heard about this song in NME in June and it's been bouncing round my head since then. Hope you like it too:

I'd love to know what you think of my featured records! xox

In the Eye of the Beholder

I am very prone to random impulse purchases and this product was defiantly one of those! I was in Superdrug   when I saw some wash in wash out hair dye. I have never dyed my hair before and I have wanted to try it out for ages. I have red hair naturally and I really like the colour and I have received lots of compliments on it over the years so I've no desire to permanently change the colour of my hair but out of interest I wanted to give it a go!

I bought this Superdrug dye in radiant red,

This is the natural colour of my hair:

And this is the colour after one application of the dye:

The light is a bit different in these photos so it's hard to compare but most people I asked agreed that the redness of my hair was intensified. I wasn't expecting a truly 'radiant red' after all the product was only 99p but I was pretty impressed with the result! I think that it deepened the redness of my natural hair colour, which is fine but it's not exactly Rhianna red! Also I think that if I had started with brown or blonde hair I don't think that it would have been so successful. However it was very easy to apply, it didn't stain the bath or any towels and it was easy to wash out.

Overall I think that I got pretty good value for money but while I enjoyed the novelty of this experiment, I wouldn't recommend this product except as a colour intensifier for those who already have red hair.

Have you tried any temporary dyes that worked really well? I'd be really interested to know! xox

Glad rags

On a night out I love nothing more than my heels. I love the confidence they give me and I can't have a night out without them and I already own enough to rival Carrie Bradshaw's collection (albeit minus the designer labels!) but my resolve to curb my heel addiction was sorely tested when I saw these gorgeous glittery KG by Kurt Geiger wedges in Company's spring/ summer high street fashion edit magazine:

They are kind of crazy but I love them and when I got out I usually stick to dresses in a solid colour with a simple design so I think they would've gone nicely with my LBD. They are called hoshiko, this is supposedly japenese for star girl!! How can you not love these shoes.

Unfortunatly I don't think I'll ever own a pair of these stunners (http://www.kurtgeiger.com/online-shop/204769-kg-hoshiko). But in an attempt to remedy the situation I cut out the picture and used it to help back a folder for my uni work in september:

(it's in the bottom right)

From something new to something old that I love just as much:

This is a vintage dress that I got from Blue Rinse in Leeds for £18, I have worn it several times already and everytime I have recieved compliments on it. I really like the detailing on the back (below) and I think the print is beautiful. I love imagining a back-story for vintage dresses, who else has owned it? What did they wear it to?...

Tacky or Topnotch

So in this part of my blog In this part of my blog I share something either beauty, fashion or music related (or totally random!) that I just can’t decide if it’s seriously tacky or so bad it’s good please let me know what you think!

I bought this silver horse head book-end from T K Maxx about a year ago, I just saw it and instantly fell in love! The rest of my family think I'm crazy and that it's the tackiest thing that they've ever seen, my sister is constantly telling me to get rid of it but I love it! What do you think? Do you love it too or do you agree with my sister?

Thanks for reading  ♥ you xox

And if all that didn't do the trick here's my ALL TIME favourite advert that's sure to bring a smile to your face:

Saturday 2 July 2011

This is my fifth post (yay!- thanks to all my lovely readers and followers ♥) and as five is my lucky number I thought this post should be a little different. I know 'what's in my bag' posts are hardly a new idea but I am exceptionally nosy so I love reading them and as I am quite a new blogger I think it's a good way for people to get to know me a bit better. So this is my spin on the 'what's in my bag' post.

Record that Rocks

I love Radio One so when I'm around the house or out in the car that's usually what I listen to, Fearne Cotton, Greg James and Zane Lowe are my particular favourites. The rest of the time I rely on my iPod, its a 32GB touch third generation that I bought on ebay after saving up for what felt like forever! It is one if my most prized possessions, when I first got it I carried it round in the inflated plastic pocket, that it was delivered, in for ages because I was so scared of breaking it! I keep it now in a rather dull blue and black case.

The first song to come up on a random shuffle is 'Since you're gone' by the Pretty Reckless
The top five most played songs are:
'Sex' by Big Sleep, 'Because the Night' by Patti Smith, 'A thing called love' by Johnny Cash,'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree' by KT Tunstall and 'Mr Brightside' by the Killers.
The most recently added song is 'Bear Hug' by the 2 Bears!
The highest rated song is 'I bet you look good on the Dancefloor' by the Arctic Monkeys. Enjoy!

In The Eye of the Beholder

My everyday make up bag is a silver Ruby and Millie bag, it contains a Jemma Kidd foundation, Number 17 concealer, Calvin Klein lipgloss, Calvin Klein lipstick, Bourjois powder, Ruby and Millie eyeshadow pen, Maybelline Mascara, Garnier eye roll on and some gorgeously smelly soap and glory moisturiser. These are the products I couldn't live without:

I also have a much larger Primark Strawberry print make up bag  that contains everything else! I love the print on this bag, especially since I can't get enough of strawberries at the moment.

My nail polish collection is kept in a Jemma Kidd pink bag. I have an actual addiction to nail polish I just can't stop myself from buying more!

Glad Rags

I was unsure how to tackle this part of this post so I decided to go for an outfit of the day

One of my best friends broke up with her long term boyfriend this week so we are all trying to distract her from this as much as possible so later today we are meeting up for shopping and cocktails. So this is the semi casual outfit I'm wearing for that:

White lace dresses were a huge trend this spring/ summer particularly on catwalks such as Dolce and Gabbana and this is my take on this trend. I love the length on this dress it's just short enough to compliment the high neckline but it's long enough to protect my modesty. It's from Primark, it was around £10.

Im wearing my trusty M&S silver pumps and a vintage scarf from Blue Rinse in Leeds. I think the tropical floral pattern on the scarf is gorgeous.

Tacky or Topnotch

Since the rest of my post has been unusual I thought instead of the normal straw poll on whether something music, fashion or beauty related (or totally random) is utterly tacky or so bad it's good, I thought instead I'd show you the book I plan my posts in:

This is the page for this post:

Hope you liked my take on this type of post, I'd love to know what you thought.

Love you ♥
